Black Bird

Track of the day - Bye Bye Blackbird - Pete Fountain.

I stood there staring at a big black bird. I was in the West Indies and the birds were different from the usual Bogsville varieties. Come to that - everything was different.

After a while I turned to an old local guy.
"Excuse me but what sort of bird is that?"
"Which bird you asking me about?"
"That black one there," I said.
He looked at me sadly and smiled.
"Man, we just call them birds blackbirds."
Then he walked off.
I should have known.
